Ryan Johnson has long taken pride in his creative works. These days he enjoys smashing them into bits and shards.

"There's always a new project to try and new effects to do. We have a lot of fun," he said.

Johnson owns SMASHProps, an Orcutt-based manufacturer of breakaway props and other special effects designed for the film and theater industries.
